This year’s theme’s is “Life is a theatre! It’s time to get masked : it will be revived by lots of endless series of spectacles, between the beginning of Carnival and its end, on the 21st february 2012.

Every district, every square, San Marco’s square will be involved in the endless series of theatrical performances, circus shows, showing of films, dances, songs, concerts, drinks, parties.
For the most curious : guide-actors will lead you in the most secret parts of the city, in fascinating “dramatized” tours.

“Svolo della pantegana” (“the fluttering rat”), a comical preview of the famous “Volo dell’Angelo” (“the Angel’s flying”), which is the annual opening performance of Venice Carnival.
Wine-and-food stands with traditional carnival delicacies: fritole and galani among the others.

Historical commemoration of the Doge’s annual custom to present 12 humble young girls of marriageable age with dogal jewels.
A procession of white-dressed girls from Castello to San Marco, the prize-giving will take place during the last day of Carnival.

Historical commemoration of the tribute to the Doge.
A special guest of Venice city, kept secret till the last day, will fly off through San Marco Square, hanging from a wire: from the top of San Marco’s bell tower to the middle of the square.

An endless series of meetings with Venice Carnival 2011 at the Grand Foyer, the theatrical machine placed at San Marco Square.

Every day, from 2 p.m., San Marco square will become the beating heart of Carnival 2012.
